FTP and power zones
What FTP means
Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is an estimate of the highest average power you can sustain for roughly an hour. It is measured in watts and is commonly used to set training intensity.
FTP is individual and changes as fitness changes. Use a recent structured test or a value recommended by your coach rather than copying a value from another rider. Retest or update it periodically if you train with power.
Configure power zones
- Open More > Heart rate and power zones.
- Under Power zones, choose FTP or Manual boundaries.
- Enter FTP in watts, or increasing lower boundaries for Z2 and above.
- Save.
BikeNet’s FTP zones
BikeNet’s automatic seven-zone model begins new zones at 56%, 76%, 91%, 106%, 121%, and 151% of FTP. During a ride, you can display your current power zone, percentage of FTP, and time in zone.
The zone definition is saved with the ride, so later FTP changes do not rewrite old results. Estimated power can fill these fields when no meter is connected, but use a calibrated power meter when accurate training intensity matters.
