Ride & navigation

Ride metrics reference

A guide to the speed, distance, time, effort, navigation, gear, and lap fields you can add to a ride screen.

Speed, distance, and time

  • Auto speed uses a wheel sensor when one is connected because it usually responds more smoothly than GPS. If no wheel reading is available, it falls back to GPS. You can also add separate Wheel speed and GPS speed fields when you want to compare them.
  • GPS distance is calculated from your recorded location points. Wheel distance is calculated from wheel revolutions, so an accurate wheel size is important.
  • Elapsed time runs from the start of the ride to the finish and includes stops. Moving time counts only the periods when BikeNet detects that you are moving.
  • Grade shows the current slope as a percentage. Altitude is your elevation above sea level, and Heading is your current direction of travel.
  • Wind is the most recent weather-based observation available to BikeNet. It is not a live measurement from the bike and may not reflect gusts or sheltered roads.

Your effort

  • Heart rate is shown in beats per minute (bpm), cadence in crank revolutions per minute (rpm), and power in watts.
  • Heart-rate zone and percentage of Max HR or LTHR use the heart-rate settings you entered in More. Power zone and percentage of FTP use your power-zone settings.
  • Time in zone shows how long you have spent at the current level of effort. Riding Zone compares your live cadence and power with a target range that you choose.

Bike, route, and lap fields

  • Front gear, rear gear, the gear graphic, gear ratio, and time in gear require drivetrain data from a compatible system. If the drivetrain disconnects, these fields may temporarily be blank rather than guessing the gear.
  • Destination shows the remaining distance to the place you selected or to the end of the route you are following.
  • Lap fields include the current lap number, time and distance, lap averages, previous-lap time, and elevation gain. They are most useful when Auto Lap is enabled or the ride has been divided into laps.
