Rear derailleur setup and tuning
In this guide
Start safely
Put the bike in a secure work stand so you can turn the pedals and move through every gear without the rear wheel touching the ground. Keep fingers, clothing, cables, and tools away from the chain, cassette, and derailleur whenever the drivetrain is moving.
The Home command moves the motor immediately to establish its reference position. Use it at the start of setup or when troubleshooting a lost position, and be ready for the derailleur to move as soon as you confirm.
Manual setup
- Open Bike Setup and select the rear derailleur.
- Choose Manual Setup.
- Enter the cassette cog count.
- Use the move controls to position the chain on the smallest cog.
- Set the largest-cog target.
- Review and save the generated intermediate positions.
- Pedal and check every gear.
Tune one gear
Choose Tune when one gear needs a small correction but the others shift properly. Adjust the active position in small steps while turning the pedals, listening for chain noise and checking that the chain runs cleanly on the cog. BikeNet saves the correction before moving to another gear.
Tune changes one gear position. If every gear has moved by roughly the same amount after cable stretch or housing work, use Cable adjust instead.
